Baltimore, MD – June 17, 2025 — The Henrietta Lacks Legacy Group (HLLG) has been awarded the Hometown Heroes Award (video) in recognition of its outstanding service in honoring the legacy of Henrietta Lacks and promoting health equity, ethics, and community engagement.
Founded to preserve the story of Lacks and her globally impactful HeLa cells, HLLG has led numerous educational initiatives, memorial projects, and advocacy efforts. The award highlights the group’s dedication to uplifting underrepresented voices in science and history.
